Surface Preparation

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free from grease. To obtain good adhesion, clean surfaces with Geocel Surface Cleaner before applying the sealant. Areas adjacent to the joint should be masked with tape to prevent contamination of substrates and ensure a neat sealant line. Where there is a large gap, it is advisable to pack the joint with tissue paper.

Application

Replace nozzle and cut tip to required width at a 45° angle. Ensure that the adhesive/sealant makes full contact with both sides of the joint. Cut the cartridge nozzle at an angle to ease control of the sealant flow. The nozzle should be cut according to the width of the joint. As the sealant extrudes from the cartridge, draw the cartridge towards you along the joint.

Finishing

Tooling should be carried out within five minutes of sealing, before a skin forms. This can be achieved by using the back of a spoon. When tooling, it is important to ensure a good contact between the silicone and the substrate. Masking tape should be removed immediately after tooling.

Cleaning

Excess adhesive/sealant may be cleaned off tools, clothing and skin using Geocel® Universal Wipes.

Limitations

Do not use on substrates that can bleed oils, solvents or plasticisers. Product releases acetic acid during cure, which can corrode sensitive metals such as copper, brass and lead.
