TruDesign range of Skin Fittings are certified by the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) and Bureau VERITAS to ISO 9093-2. They also comply with ABYC H-27.

Designed and made in New Zealand, the Skin Fitting body and nut are moulded from a glass-reinforced nylon composite. High strength, high-modulus glass fibres provide dramatic strength, stiffness, toughness and dimensional stability. These properties allow a significant weight reduction over metallic fittings.

TruDesign Skin Fittings eliminate the corrosion and electrical bonding problems associated with metallic fittings.

When used in below waterline applications, a Ball Valve should be directly connected for safety and compliance to relevant marine standards.

Frequently asked questions

  • What sealant do I use on the threads?
    Thread sealing options # Standard Ceelon Thread tape # 3M 5200 fast cure # Sikaflex 291i # Locktite 5331 # Arbokol 1000
  • Can you use epoxy resin to adhere and seal a TruDesign Skin Fitting into a composite or wooden material hull?
Yes In fact a West type epoxy system is ideal and adheres well to the composite fitting and the hull. This method makes the Skin Fitting an integral part of the hull. Polyurethane based marine sealants such as 3M Fast Cure or Sika 291i may also be used.
  • What if I need to replace a TruDesign Skin Fitting that has been epoxied into the hull?
The Skin Fitting will last the life of the hull. However if for example a 1" toilet outlet needed to be replaced with a 1½" toilet outlet; Wedge a wooden bung into the Skin Fitting from the outside and use a hole saw to drill out the fitting with a diameter 1mm larger than the diameter of the threaded part of the new 1½" Skin Fitting. Chisel off the surround from the outside of the hull and fit the new 1½" Skin Fitting.
  • Are TruDesign Skin Fittings certified?
YES The TruDesign Skin Fittings are certified by the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) in Belgium, and Bureau Veritas to ISO 9093-2 for use above and below the waterline.
